A communicative approach to language teaching in content subjects will only come along over a considerably long period of time. But what happens in a class that incorportates this approach is, in theory, closer than any other approach and method to what language is developed for. And in practice, it is closer to what the language will be used for by the students in their future work. So it serves the needs of society in a more direct and practical way.
